Chelsea eye Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster, set to rival Arsenal

Chelsea ‘weighing up Fraser Forster move’

Chelsea are reportedly ‘keeping tabs’ on Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster as they consider a move for the England international during this summer’s transfer window.
The 32-year-old has been on loan at Celtic during the 2019-20 campaign, keeping 17 clean sheets in 39 appearances for the Scottish champions.

The Hoops are allegedly keen to sign the stopper on a permanent deal this summer, but according to Football Insider, Chelsea are also keeping a close eye on developments.

The report, though, claims that the Blues view the 6ft 7in goalkeeper as a potential number two at Stamford Bridge rather than first choice.

Willy Caballero recently signed a one-year contract with Frank Lampard’s side to take him until the end of next season, but there remains speculation surrounding the future of Kepa Arrizabalaga.

The Spain international will allegedly be given the final nine matches of the 2019-20 Premier League season to prove his worth to the club before a decision is made on his future.

Forster has a contract at St Mary’s until the summer of 2022, but the Saints will reportedly consider offers in the region of £10m for a player who has been capped on six occasions by England.

Arsenal to rival Chelsea for Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster

Fraser Forster has reportedly emerged as a potential transfer target for Arsenal and Chelsea. Despite falling out of favour at St Mary’s, Forster has reignited his career with a productive loan spell at Celtic, making a total of 28 appearances in all competitions before the campaign was brought to an abrupt halt due to the coronavirus pandemic.

With the 32-year-old available for transfer during the next window, Football Insider suggests that Arsenal and Chelsea are weighing up a move.

From Chelsea’s perspective, much will depend on whether they are able to find a buyer for Kepa Arrizabalaga, who cost £72m less than two years ago.

Meanwhile, the Gunners are said to be in the market for a new deputy to Bernd Leno with Emiliano Martinez open to departing the Emirates Stadium.

However, one possible stumbling block could be the fee with Southampton allegedly prepared to demand £10m.
