Chelsea news: Chelsea in position to sign Kai Havertz, Lampard back Kepa, set to use Tomori in Rice deal

Chelsea in to land Kai Havertz

Standard Sport understands that Chelsea are set to press ahead with a £70m bid for Kai Havertz.

Goal now reports that the Blues are in ‘pole position’ to sign the Bayer Leverkusen star, though a £90m price tag has been suggested.

Champions League football is a must, however, so much depends on Chelsea’s run-in.

Chelsea race for Havertz boosted

Chelsea need to raise funds to launch their move for £70million-rated Kai Havertz this summer.

The Blues have already spent big, signing Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner. Frank Lampard is keen to press ahead with deals for Havertz and Ben Chilwell, while Declan Rice is also on his shortlist.

But to do so Lampard must raise funds through sales, and The Mirror reports Jorginho could be key to any deal for Havertz.

Juventus – managed by former Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri – are interested in Jorginho, who has played a very little role since the restart.

Chelsea to involve Tomori in Rice transfer deal

Frank Lampard is prepared to include Fiyako Tomori in a deal to land West Ham’s Declan Rice, report The Athletic.

The Chelsea defender – who has fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge – is also said to be wanted by Everton.

Tomori has played just 15 Premier League games this season.

Frank Lampard backs Kepa for improvement

Frank Lampard believes Kepa Arrizabalaga’s crucial late stop against Crystal Palace could be a big moment for the under-pressure goalkeeper at Chelsea.

Kepa made a brilliant save to tip Scott Dann’s header on to the post in the final minute of stoppage time as Palace pushed hard for an equaliser.

Chelsea held on to secure a 3-2 win which takes them a step closer to securing Champions League qualification.

Lampard said: “It can be big. It can be important. It is the same with Tammy scoring a goal and his confidence.

“Goalkeepers even more so in a way, confidence is huge when you are in that individual position and he should be boosted. His team-mates should be boosted because he saved us two points as a group.

“That is what Kepa is there for. I am pleased for him. We need that, to be a top team you need keepers making those sorts of saves at important times to pull you through.

“He made a big save for us at the end which is huge. That is what he is there for so credit to him.”
