Chelsea news: Legend Peter Cech to identify new goalkeeper, Chelsea begin chase of Villarreal central-back

Manager of the month moninee Frank Lampard ‘asked Peter Cech to identify a good new goalkeeper’

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has reportedly asked Petr Cech to find a replacement for goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.

With the Spaniard again less than convincing against West Ham United on Wednesday evening, speculation persists that an alternative will be found during the next transfer window.

According to The Telegraph, former Blues stopper Cech, the club’s technical and performance advisor, has been tasked with the job of identifying different options.

The report suggests that the Czech will have a significant say in whether bids will be made for players which feature on Lampard’s shortlist.

A change between the sticks is unlikely to materialise unless Chelsea can find a new club for Arrizabalaga, who holds a long-term contract.

The West Londoners are said to be open to allowing the former Athletic Bilbao man to go out on loan next season.

Chelsea football club ‘begin chase for Villarreal’s Pau Torres’

Chelsea are reportedly weighing up an approach for Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres.

The 23-year-old has been a key component of the Yellow Submarine’s defence this term, making 29 La Liga appearances as Villarreal lie fifth in the table.

Torres still has four years left to run on his Villarreal contract, but his performances in the Spanish top flight this term have supposedly garnered the interest of several top European sides.

According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea have joined the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United and Barcelona in the race to secure Torres’s signature.

The report states that Torres possesses a £45m release clause in his current Villarreal contract, although the Yellow Submarine would likely have to lower their demands ahead of a transfer window set to be heavily impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.
