Chelsea transfer news: Chelsea get Kai Havertz’ transfer boost, eye new defender

Chelsea handed Kai Havertz’ boost as Bayern Munich back in the chase

Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has insisted that the German champions will not be in the running to sign Bayer Leverkusen attacker Kai Havertz this summer.

Havertz has been in impressive form for Leverkusen during the 2019-20 campaign, scoring 16 times and contributing nine assists in 42 appearances in all competitions.

Bayern were thought to be firmly in the race for the Germany international alongside Chelsea.

However, Rummenigge has revealed that the Bundesliga giants cannot afford to sign the 21-year-old ahead of the 2020-21 season, having already agreed to sign Leroy Sane from Manchester City.

“We have a really big financial challenge ahead of us. Even if we wanted the player, we could not finance it this year,” Rummenigge told Bild.

Chelsea target Kai Havertz ‘dreaming of Premier League move’

Bayer Leverkusen attacker Kai Havertz “dreams” of playing in the Premier League, according to his teammate Wendell.

The Germany international is widely expected to leave BayArena during this summer’s transfer window, and both Chelsea and Manchester United have been strongly linked with a move.

According to Wendell, who operates alongside Havertz for Leverkusen, the youngster “dreams” of playing in England’s top flight.

“He’s a complete player,” Wendell told Yellow and Green Football. “If you play him as a number nine or as a number 10 a little bit behind, or if you put him out wide, he’ll know what to do.

“He has a facility to understand what the manager wants. He finishes well with both feet. He’s strong with his head, he has good technique. Psychologically, the Germans are very focused people, too. They are very concentrated on what they want.

“If he goes to the Premier League, he will learn a lot. I think Kai dreams of playing there. He has that desire. If he decides to play in England, he will be a success.”

Chelsea target Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres.

Chelsea are reportedly weighing up an approach for Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres.

The 23-year-old has been a key component of the Yellow Submarine’s defence this term, making 29 La Liga appearances as Villarreal lie fifth in the table.

Torres still has four years left to run on his Villarreal contract, but his performances in the Spanish top flight this term have supposedly garnered the interest of several top European sides.

According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea have joined the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United and Barcelona in the race to secure Torres’s signature.

The report states that Torres possesses a £45m release clause in his current Villarreal contract, although the Yellow Submarine would likely have to lower their demands ahead of a transfer window set to be heavily impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.
