It was about growing in confidence’: Tuchel explains half-time switch to bring in Kante for Mount
“It was a hard choice for Mason Mount and it was a bit more defensive from N’Golo Kante but I wanted to give energy,” Thomas Tuchel told Sky Sports when asked to explain his half-time substitution in the Tottenham win.
“I was not ready to talk about the spaces here and there. It was about the second balls and duels. It was about growing in confidence through energy and ball wins and higher work rate. That was the signal to the talk more or less.”
In a separate interview with BBC, Tuchel added: “He played a huge part. N’Golo is N’Golo, he’s unique, one of a kind and having him on the pitch makes such a huge difference to everything.”
Mount notably struggled in the first half. That was one of the incentives for Tuchel to change the formation after the break, introducing Kante as the third centre midfielder.
