It’s shocking to me’: 2 Chelsea fans argue about Mendy’s ball distribution, make Kepa comparison

Recently, Edouard Mendy was named as an inspiration for black goalkeepers by Leyton Orient man Lawrence Vigouroux.

This led to a conversation between two Chelsea fans regarding Mendy’s distribution skills.

This is what u/jrrecauzat had to say: “Sadly, I think the perception that Lawrence Vigouroux is talking about here exist.

“Mendy is one of the best goalkeepers in the league to play the ball out of the back, either with short passes or long passes, but still people say he’s not good with the ball on his feet. That’s just shocking to me.”

Another fan u/chelseafan07 disagreed, saying: “You can be poor with the ball, yet quite efficient with it when playing out of the back because of decision making.

“I usually think of Gary Cahill as an example of this. Mendy makes great choices and is efficient.

“Kepa on the other hand is quite good with the ball, however his decision making is so poor that it often leads to us losing possession.”

Mendy’s distribution maybe up for debate but the goalkeeper’s ability as an overall goalkeeper cannot be doubted.

What do you think about the Chelsea keeper’s passing?
