Report: Chelsea step up on Chilwell deal, Timo Werner to become Chelsea’s highest earner

Chelsea boost interest in Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell

Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell is reportedly a priority target for Chelsea heading into the summer transfer window.
The Blues have already been active in the market, with RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner understood to have agreed a five-year deal at Stamford Bridge.

Manager Frank Lampard is supposedly hoping to add a new left-back to the ranks in South-West London, and Chilwell has been heavily linked with a move to the English capital recently.

According to Sky Sports News, the Blues are willing to go all out to secure the services of the 23-year-old in time for next season, and Chelsea would be open to parting ways with current left-backs Emerson Palmieri and Marcos Alonso in order to raise funds.

However, with Chilwell’s contract at Leicester set to run until 2024, the Foxes will likely demand a hefty fee for the England international.

Chilwell has registered two goals and three assists from 23 Premier League appearances this term as Leicester lie third in the table prior to the league’s resumption.

Timo Werner to become Chelsea’s highest earner with £52m contract

Timo Werner will become Chelsea’s highest-earning player should his proposed move to Stamford Bridge go through.
The Premier League club are understood to have beaten domestic rivals Liverpool and Manchester United to the signature of the RB Leipzig striker, who was also linked with Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Chelsea have reportedly triggered Werner’s €60m (£53.8m) release clause and agreed terms on a five-year contract which will see him earn £200,000 per week.

Those terms would catapult Werner to the top of the list of Chelsea’s highest earners, with Kepa Arrizabalaga and N’Golo Kante currently on the most lucrative deals at Stamford Bridge.

The duo earn £150,000 per week in West London to give an annual salary of £7.8m – some way short of Werner’s reported potential earnings of £10.4m per year.

Over the full five-year contract that deal would see the 24-year-old earn £52m, just short of the figure it will take Chelsea to bring him to the club.

Werner has directly contributed to 43 goals in just 40 games this season, scoring 31 times and creating a further 12.
