Report: Ziyech and Werner could play in Chelsea for rest of Champions League

Chelsea ‘could have Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech for rest of Champions League’

Chelsea may be handed a boost before they square off against Bayern Munich in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie.

Before the coronavirus pandemic, the Blues suffered a 3-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge, which makes them huge underdogs for the return fixture at the Allianz Arena.

However, should Frank Lampard’s team pull off a miraculous comeback, it appears that they may have two extra players at their disposal.

According to The Express, UEFA are scheduled to hold a meeting to discuss whether any new signings can feature in the mini-tournament version of the competition in August.

From the last eight onwards, each remaining side will compete in Lisbon, playing down to a final which will take place on August 23.

A change in the regulations would allow Chelsea to field Hakim Ziyech and potentially rumoured new signing Timo Werner.

Havertz to Chelsea at cut price

Chelsea are unwilling to meet Bayer Leverkusen’s £90million asking price for Kai Havertz but believe they can do a deal for around £70million if the Bundesliga club miss out on the Champions League, according to The Telegraph.
